Portrait of a Crow

Portrait of a Crow

The artist scribbles and scratches. A recognizable form emerges, but she labels it, just in case.

"Is that supposed to be a crow?"

"Yes."

"It doesn't look like a crow. It looks like a person."

"I didn't have a model to look at. I just wanted to draw a crow."

"A crow's beak is shaped differently. That's not what a crow's head is shaped like. The eye is wrong."

Silence.

The art critic wanders away, leaving the artist with her poorly-drawn crow. The artist wonders why someone who minutes before had stated that art was of no interest would take the time to critique her technique.

  1. Sigh. Are people mean just for the sake of being mean? I hope the artist never stops creating art.

    1. The artist never will, but they will learn to pay less attention to criticism unless it is in service to the art.
